View RecordsFind Prince George’s County Maryland custody contacts and use the correct public-information request for an existing booking photograph.
This route applies if “PG County” means Prince George’s County, Maryland. If your paperwork names another county or state, identify that booking agency first. The Maryland Corrections Inmate Locator directory lists 301-952-7164 and 301-952-7025, with 301-952-7102 also shown. Start there when you need to identify a county custody record; the directory is a contact route, not an online mugshot gallery.
Before calling, gather the person’s full name, approximate booking date and any inmate or booking reference you already have. Ask which agency held the person for that event. A current-custody inquiry and a request for an older booking photograph are different tasks: a person may no longer be in custody even though an earlier record exists. Do not infer that a photograph exists, is public or matches the intended person from a name alone.
The county’s MPIA guidance expressly includes photographs among public records. For a correctional booking image, direct the request to the Corrections custodian at [email protected], telephone 301-952-7304, 13400 Dille Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772. The Office of Law’s Public Information Act page also links the county request portal. Identify Corrections as the department when using that route.
Describe the existing photograph sought: the person’s name, the date or narrow period of booking, and a booking or case identifier if known. Say whether you want the image electronically or a paper copy and include a return contact. Ask for an estimate before chargeable work if cost matters. Requesting the photo specifically avoids receiving only a custody-status answer or an unrelated police incident report.
A request is an access request, not an entitlement to every image. The county can redact or withhold records under applicable exemptions, including investigatory protections. It need not create a photograph, recreate a destroyed file or compile a new gallery. If the record cannot be supplied, ask whether it was never held, was disposed of under a retention schedule, is held elsewhere or is legally withheld.
For a record held by Prince George’s County Police, use the MPIA/FOIA request link on the Police online-services page, which directs requests to its GovQA records portal. Police Records is a separate custodian from Corrections. The county directory lists [email protected] and 301-985-3638 for Police Records; identify the agency incident number when you have it.
Police says it verifies the requester’s relationship to the report, such as an involved party, authorized agent or attorney, or media source. Its guidance also says members of the public may receive responsive information subject to MPIA restrictions and redaction. State your actual relationship and use the department’s instructions for any authorization it requests. Do not claim to be a party or representative merely to obtain a fuller record.
The Police department publishes the first two hours of preparation, research and review without charge and a $50 hourly rate for additional time. That Police rate must not be assumed to be the Corrections rate. The county’s general page allows reasonable search, preparation and copying charges and identifies two free search hours. Have the chosen custodian explain its estimate, copying medium and any required payment before expanding the request.
Maryland’s Attorney General explains that disclosable records should be produced promptly, with a reasonable period of up to 30 days when needed for retrieval and review. If production will take more than 10 working days, a written or email notice is due within that period explaining timing, delay and estimated fees. These rules are not a promise that a particular mugshot will be released. Keep notices and track any extension you agree to.
For a denial, retain the statutory grounds and challenge instructions supplied by the custodian. For a partial release, check whether you received the photograph requested and whether the booking date and identifier are included. Ask the issuing office to clarify an apparent mismatch; do not relabel a different person’s image based on facial resemblance or a common name. A booking photo documents an arrest-processing event, not guilt or the final disposition.
If your real question is the case outcome, use Maryland Judiciary court-record access guidance to locate the filing court and obtain the disposition. Keep that court document separate from the photo and custody response. Maryland Case Search supplies a summary, and some criminal outcomes are omitted online while still available at the courthouse. This is why a missing search result cannot authenticate an image or establish what happened to its charge.
